The grade 12 Home language learners had a wonderful experience at the Artscape theatre in Cape Town on April 14. Not only did they have the privilege of watching “The Christmas of Map Jacobs”, their prescribed drama, but the roles were cast by some of South Africa’s leading actors.
Maurice Paige (known for his role as Ty in Suidooster) played the lead role as Map Jacobs, a feared gangster who is released on parole after seven years, masterfully. The rest of the castings provided an authentic look at the widening influence social and social evils had on the Cape Plains following forced shifts from District Six in the sixties.
The BD’s definitely now have more insight into the lifestyles of the uprooted, their love and suffering and the desperate hunger for a better existence.
